Tzu Chi Long Island Education Center (LIEC) in New York State is a place of learning for people of all ages. It provides continuing education classes for adults and is also one of five Tzu Chi Great Love Preschools around the United States. The LIEC is also part of the educational cause of the four major missions of Buddhist Tzu Chi Foundation - Charity, Medicine, Education, and Culture. All programs at LIEC seek to instill the value of gratitude, respect, love, kindness, and compassion. The LIEC is also a place of peace and relaxation for community members.
Taiwan Center for Mandarin Learning (TCML) at the Tzu Chi Long Island Education Center (LIEC) bases its curriculum on “Let’s Learn Mandarin” (provided by the Overseas Community Affairs Council) and supplements it with other thematic and contemporary resources to create a balanced, well-rounded learning experience. Classes run for a total of three hours per week. In every class, language learning is conducted in a Taiwanese cultural context, such as traditional folk skills, festivals, arts, etc. There is also time blocked out for culture classes, which can look like dragon and lion dance, calligraphy, tea ceremony, flower arrangement, the making of folk snacks, etc.
