GMA (Goodnews Mandarin Academy) was founded by the Austin Taiwanese Presbyterian Church (ATPC) in 2014 to promote the Mandarin language, Taiwanese culture, and Christian faith. In order to support Taiwan's efforts to "Enhance the promotion of Mandarin teaching in the United States and Europe," GMA established the Taiwan Center for Mandarin Learning at Austin (TCML at Austin) in 2023. We offer classes in the Mandarin with Traditional characters and provide Taiwanese cultural experiences. We serve Austin's communities by offering adults (aged 18 and above) an authentic environment to learn Mandarin and experience Taiwanese culture locally.
The course and curriculum are based on “Let’s Learn Mandarin”. Students learn traditional characters with Hanyu Pinyin supplemented by cultural activities so that students can apply Mandarin they have learned in their daily lives. Practical exercises and group activities in the classroom are designed specifically for this class. With the bases of daily needs, we focus on practicality and functionality to achieve a balanced development of listening, speaking, reading, and writing, as well as to cultivate cognition and understanding of Taiwanese culture.
